One of the greatest things we can do for the quality of our dishes is ensure the quality of our ingredients. Grocery stores carry a large array of produce, however the product has to go through a delay before it gets to you. “Farm to table” – you have heard the phrase many times before. Getting the product directly from the farm, with as few stops along the way as possible, is the best way to ensure fresh, delicious produce.

Well it doesn’t get any faster than a truck that drives straight from the farm to you! For the past four years, I have subscribed to the Roxbury Farm CSA. Roxbury Farm is a a Certified Organic Farm, where “all produce is grown without the input of any synthetic or artificial fertilizers or pesticides.” Every week from June through Thanksgiving, Roxbury Farm delivers a beautiful array of organic vegetables to subscribers throughout New York City and New York State – squash, kale, lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, herbs and much more.

So here it is, the BIG announcement! Each week, Roxbury Farm sends out an email to their subscribers with information about the Farm and a list of the vegetables they can expect the following week. And now, included in every email, will be a recipe by YOURS TRULY, featuring some of the vegetables included in the share that week. Part of what I love about the CSA is getting presented with vegetables each week that I am tasked to use up before the next week comes along. It is like my own version of Chopped – presented with my basket and I have to make it work. Mainly you get great mainstream vegetables, but every once in a while you are thrown one that you haven’t used or seen before and it’s fun to learn how to incorporate that new ingredient into your meal. I love the creativity that comes along with it – it’s why I love cooking!
